Meet the
Community
Meet the global community of sailboat families already out there.
While there are many common threads running through the boating life, everyone brings their own unique approach and perspective to the journey.
The boating and traveling community spans many different nationalities and cultures, encompassing families and boats of all shapes and sizes.
And so, in our ever-changing sea of ideas, we've cast a wide net within our community of friends, buddy boats, and acquaintances, inviting them to share their pearls of wisdom, insights, and knowledge, along with their reasons for starting out on this incredible adventure and, in some cases, their reasons for returning to land.
The response has been overwhelmingly honest, candid, and insightful. So, to introduce this fresh perspective, on the first Wednesday of every month, we're switching things up a bit.
Instead of our usual Wednesday guide, we're handing over the reins to other boating families from all corners of the globe, allowing us to learn from their challenges and narrative.
Whether you're deeply experienced or simply intrigued, these monthly posts promise to be a fantastic source of inspiration and solidarity.
Selkie - Called to the Sea
I would say sailing is in our blood. My husband’s Scottish ancestry calls him to the sea, and my Dutch genes call me to canals that open to the world. We are motivated to sail, because travel keeps the blood flowing—the constant change, the adapting, and the high-highs and low-lows……This lifestyle has changed everything. It changes how you see the world, what you think is possible to achieve, how to survive, how to enjoy time, and what it means to be with family. If this is even a thought that has crossed your mind, you should do it.
Kirlana - Freedom from the system
It was a sabbatical in the beginning and exploring something new but once you are on the move, travelling, it’s hard to settle down again. We wanted to get out of the mainstream system.
We have always been interested in learning new things, getting into other cultures and experiencing another lifestyle. Also, we recognized how school and peer-groups influence and manipulate children and how much pressure the systems puts on them but also on us.
Ayla - exploring by our own eyes
The freedom of using our time as we want and to explore the world by our own eyes. This journey has made us understand more about the differences in the world
Magic Dragon -making memories
Stop saying you would like to do it and book in a date to leave. Whilst you may not make the precise date due to weather, without it you may never leave.
Bicho Papão - connecting as a family
Everywhere we went, I had the impression we were leaving too soon and would have loved to have stayed longer. I love to connect with the local people and their culture so much, these are the most precious experiences we live during this adventure in my opinion.
Sailing Tea Time - embracing the worlds beauty
Our motivation for this sailing adventure stemmed from a longing for a simpler, more connected life. We were always drawn to the idea of world exploration, cultural immersion, and family bonding. The sea offered a unique mix of challenges and peace. It was about extending our cherished 'teatime' moments – our symbol for quality family time – into a broader journey. This lifestyle was our way of breaking from the norm to embrace the world's beauty and mysteries together.
Sunday Waffles- Living our Dream !
Life has become more intentional. Our minds have shifted to decide what really matters and is important in life. Providing for yourself, serving and giving in your community, growing and learning are all important and part of a fulfilling life - but so is living your dreams.
Festina Lente - The Dutch Explorers
Being a mate on a sailing vessel in 2010, sailing around South America, I realised at once wanted to do something similar with my own family.
The Scruffy and Salty Crew
We all love sailing, being out on the water, travelling to new place and waking up to a new horizon. We also love challenges, and liveaboard life certainly provides enough of them to keep things interesting.
S/V Mothership - That’s us!
We never wanted to live a conventional life so our long term plan was always to escape the rat race and live a more self-sustaining life of travel and adventure.
